Just a note to say that July’s ATUB will be held a week early on the weekend of the 16th-18th. There’s a poll in the sidebar for you to vote on your preferred day and time of the weekend, though we expect it to be on the Saturday evening.

I’m a full-time design student at UniSA and I also work part-time at JB Hi-Fi.

DESIGN! I pretty much live and breathe it. I’m always looking for inspiration. I’m also pretty passionate about a certain TV show (see below!).

What’s one movie/TV show/band/singer/song/anything you can’t stop talking about and how good is it?
I really can’t get enough of The Mighty Boosh or anything Boosh-related, I think it’s hilarious! There was a good 6 months where I had to get my daily fix, but I’ve toned it down a bit since then… I still get really excited about it though, haha.

Who was the first person you met from Twitter?
Besides the people I know already, probably @megainintime and @bridgetmilson… I met them through @nicolepenney. I’ve also seen @monnie, @mpurse and @omegatron at my work a couple of times but haven’t had the chance to meet them properly!

Im 20 years old & really into design. I’m a fake ranga & quite tall for a female. I don’t get much free time but still manage to Tweet 24/7

Back in 2007 when I first joined Twitter, it was a dark empty room. When you first join, it is quiet. I didn’t know anyone else using the service so I left for a few months and came back to meet a couple of other Adelaide people and new interstate friends. Thanks to a lot of them, I realised how valuable the service was.

Sydney and Melbourne already had very well established Twitter meetups, and formed their names based around the fact that Twitter was still a mostly unknown world. Facebook was still developing and poaching MySpace users at this time, so Twitter was left to grow on its own.

I attended my first Twitter “meetup” in early 2008, when I met up with a friend (who no longer lives in Adelaide). At this stage, not very many people were keen to meetup or were busy. Eventually we met others, and in late 2008 after a brief break from Twitter myself, the media had done the hyping Twitter needed to become more of a social meetup network.

I put faces to names for the first time in December 2008 when I held a BarCamp Adelaide Planning Meeting and the Twitter meets followed regularly from here. They used to be every Friday night, but in recent months after a few breaks and demand for different days increased, we’ve polled our attendees instead. That’s how we came to the Sunday afternoon conclusion, as well as the venue – The Highway.

We also have another Twitter account which mirrors the ATUB tweets called @AdelaideTweetup where we hope the name itself will be enough to attract more attendees (as it’s very self explanatory).

Hopefully we’ll see you on Sunday afternoon!

We are fast approaching the end of 2009 and it is time for another ATUB meet… This one is most probably the last official one for the year, so if you can come along and finally put names to faces, do it! We’d love to have you come along.

The last ATUB meet in September took up almost the whole upstairs room in the Pancake Kitchen and had 30 attendees!

At this moment the event location is to be confirmed. Somewhere in or near the immediate vicinity of the CBD is preferable and accessible for seating, numbers (30-40 people), aircon (possibly) and decent pricing for food/drinks.

Hopefully we’ll get to see you all there!
